Alexandra Gate, Newport

The Alexandra Gate project involved the façade remediation of two residential blocks, Penner Court and Blaina Court, located in Newport, South Wales.

The works focused on the removal of combustible materials and the installation of fully compliant, non-combustible systems to enhance fire safety and ensure compliance with the latest Building Safety Act requirements. This included replacing the existing timber cladding with a non-combustible alternative, installing horizontal floor and vertical party wall cavity barriers, and upgrading the timber balcony decking to a proprietary non-combustible system. In addition, patching and decoration of the render were carried out to restore the buildings’ appearance following remediation.

Access to all elevations was achieved using a carefully planned combination of scaffolding and MEWPs, designed to suit the site’s specific requirements while minimising disruption to residents.

Upon completion, the external wall systems underwent a fire risk appraisal in line with PAS 9980 methodology, with both buildings achieving an EWS1 B1 rating
