The Apollo Works Building consists of five blocks used as student accommodation. This project focussed on the removal of the existing spandrel panels and insulation, replacing them with non-combustible Proteus SP metal spandrel panels, insulation and new cavity barriers.
To minimise disruption to the resident students, the works were scheduled between the end of the exam period and the start of 2024/2025 academic year. Access was provided via scaffolding and MEWPs, based on site specific access requirements.
Upon completion of the remediation, a fire risk appraisal of the external wall system was conducted by Jensen Hughes, following the PAS9980 methodology. This assessment provided the building with an EWS1 form, classifying the property with the top-tier A1 classification.
The A1 rating confirms that the property is low-risk, with no attachments containing significant quantities of combustible materials—an assurance of the highest safety standards for residents and stakeholders alike.
