Currently progressing through the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) application process, the façade remediation of Glassworks, Liverpool, focuses on removing combustible materials and upgrading fire protection measures to meet current building safety regulations.
The works include the removal of the existing aluminium rainscreen cladding system and support rails across all elevations to allow for the replacement of all fire barriers. New vertical support rails will be installed, and the original cladding reinstated. The project also involves the removal and replacement of glazed curtain walling, aluminium spandrel panels, and associated insulation with materials achieving Euroclass A2-s1,d0 or better.
Additional fire safety measures include replacing open-state cavity barriers with closed-state alternatives, installing horizontal cavity barriers at brickwork junctions and roof copings, and upgrading insulation within the façade to non-combustible products. Plastic extraction ducting will also be addressed with appropriate fire stopping to prevent fire spread.
