The Menai Shopping Centre occupies a prominent position in the town of Bangor, accommodating multiple retail units, which remained trading throughout the duration of the works.
Shortly after the original construction, it became apparent that the method of installing the fixings into the rear of the 600mm x 300mm x 35mm slate tiles was flawed, causing the slate to shatter and fall away from the rainscreen cladding support structure.
Works involved the removal and disposal of approximately 900 m2 of slate cladding including the existing aluminium support structure.
This was subsequently replaced with a new breather membrane, fibre insulation and slate tile rainscreen cladding on a new aluminium support structure.
The project was completed on programme despite extreme weather conditions on the North Wales Coast.
