Thornton House, Newcastle

This project involved essential upgrades to the façade of a fully operational apartment hotel in the centre of Newcastle, addressing existing EWS render and timber rainscreen cladding.

Using mast climbers for access to the front and rear elevations, the original façade materials were removed, exposing the existing steel framing system (SFS). This allowed for the installation of new cavity fire barriers between the external cladding and the inner wall structure, ensuring proper compartmentation and insulation between apartments.

The facades were then reconstructed with new Rockpanel rainscreen cladding, alongside a new Wetherby Building Systems external wall insulation (EWI) system with a non-combustible mineral wool core.
